12th Annual EARMA Conference 2006

The 2006 EARMA Annual Conference took place from 18 to 20 June 2006, at the Institut Pasteur in Paris.

EARMA were glad to have secured the services of Les Rois Mages as organisers for the event. Their professional attitude, attention to detail, and helpful staff were a significant factor in the smooth running of the Conference.  In particular, we would like to thank Geoffroy deLasteyrie, Camille Prouvost, Claudine Pons and Caroline Pierret, for their hard work.

Speakers presentations from the Conference are now available to EARMA Members.  To access these please log in to the Members section of the website (see left) using your username and password.  Then click on the 'EARMA Documents' category on the left-hand side, followed by the folder 'EARMA Conference 2006' (if you have lost or forgotten your log in details please e-mail webmaster@earma.org

The leading theme of the Conference was Successful International Research Collaboration: The Changing Research Funding Climate in Europe.  Our intention was to have strong representation on the research management and support issues faced by European research and higher education institutions operating in the current environment.  The forthcoming 7th Framework Programme, and its objectives, also featured prominently.  Other issues that are of particular interest to us were:

  1. Research management and support within institutions (strategic planning, internal structures)
  2. Sources of funding and associated issues
  3. Making international research links last longer
  4. Practical ways to help structure international research collaborations and what this means for research managers and their roles

The European Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Potočnik, opened the Conference with a pre-recorded message, and was followed by a key note speech from the head of the OECD Institutional Management in Higher Education Programme, and by 3 speakers from DG Research.

The Institut Pasteur proved to be a wonderful academic venue for our Conference, fully equipped with modern facilities, and right in the heart of the city.  EARMA would like to thank Institut Pasteur for hosting our event. EARMA are also very grateful to the hard work, guidance and advice provided by Jean-Pierre Broyart and his staff at the Pasteur, and to Sebastien Leroy and Valentine Vierne at ARMINES.

The Conference programme can be found below and presentations from the event can be downloaded from the Members section of the website.
