Dear EARMA Members - Happy New Year!!

Please note that I am still finalising it so expect one or two changes, but nothing  substantial.  So below is the latest version of the programme, I think you will agree we have an excellent and highly qualified set of speakers lined up for you.

RESEARCH FROM IDEAS TO PRODUCTS:

The Role of European universities and enterprises in the innovation process

February 29

The recent flagship programme for an Innovation Union emphasises the need for European research to contribute more to the innovation process.  But what implications will this have for European research support professionals and does the recent proposal for Horizon 2020 go far enough?  What is current thinking on support for SMEs (both now and in the future) and what are the relationships with industrial policy and the wider economy?  These are amongst some of the extremely timely topics that will be debated at this event.

A particular focus will be on the importance of SMEs and how they will be supported as well as the why it is important to improve academic-industrial links  What changes will Horizon 2020 make to the way in which universities manage their EU funding portfolios?

Speaker: Bernd Reichert, DG Research and Innovation

Chair, David Lauder, University of York, EARMA Board member

Keynote 2: Industrial Policy

In this talk our speaker will focus on industrial policy and its relationship with innovation policy,  In addition, you will learn how the new COSME programme (the successor to CIP) will operate and how parts of the current CIP programme will be incorporated into H2020. The CIP programme is being revised and some parts of the CIP programme will be integrated within Horizon 2020, while the successor programme to CIP, COSME will remain outside of Horizon 2020.  This talk will describe the changes and their implications for innovative research in Europe.
Speaker: Mr. Christian Weinberger, DG Enterprise and Industry Department E "SMEs and Entrepreneurship

Keynote 3: Innovation and the wider economy

What is the significance of SME support and innovation for the wider economy?  As is often recalled, linear models of links between fundamental research and economic outputs are no longer sufficient to explain the complex relationship.  These factors are of great significance when considering how to present innovative research’s impact on the economy.

Speaker:   Richard Yelland - Head of the Education Management and Infrastructure Division (Directorate for Education, OECD)
